What is Spiritual Warfare?

Spiritual Warfare is the ideological battle between God’s revealed truth and error.

  • It is not exorcism, though demons may be cast out in the process of spiritual warfare.
  • It is not “power encounters”, though it does involve two powers encountering each other.
  • It is not super-powered kung-fu battles that happen late at night in dark alleys between persons in white and black suits.
  • It is not human beings directly attacking spiritual forces, although there is battle done in the spiritual realm.
  • It is not praying in a certain geographic place.
  • It is not praying certain specific phrases.
  • It is not trying to discern the will of God in a specific circumstance through any number of techniques (i.e. seeking God’s “voice” or waiting for a specific act of providence as a confirmation to select a path of action) that do not involve the direct text of scripture.
  • It is not something emotionally tangible, though it has emotional ramifications.
  • It is not discerning the demonic activities apparently behind any event(s) in the physical world.

Spiritual Warfare is the ideological battle between God’s revealed truth and error.

  • When you read/see/hear things that teach you lies about God’s revealed truth and you believe it, you just lost a spiritual battle.
  • When you are asked a question about spiritual things and offer those lies as a biblical answer, you just lost a spiritual battle.
  • When you believe those lies and act them out in your life, you just lost a spiritual battle.

Oh be careful little eyes what you see,

Oh be careful little eyes what you see,

For the Devil wants you dead and he’s aiming for your head,

Oh be careful little eyes what you see.

Oh be careful little ears what you hear,

Oh be careful little ears what you hear,

For the Devil isn’t kind and he wants to rot your mind,

Oh be careful little ears what you hear.

Oh be careful little feet where you go,

Oh be careful little feet where you go,

In the counsel of the wise, you’ll find truth to fight the lies,

Oh be careful little feet where you go.

It’s time we updated our children’s songs for grown-ups and kept singing them.

Until Next Time,

Lyndon “The Impendingly-Burned-Out Theologian” Unger
